The Swirly J Blogs

Hello! My name is Jennifer G., but you can call me Jenny! I am a bit of a nerd and have a huge love for video games, anime, comics, animated films, ect. My passion is creating in a 2D format and telling stories through illustration. I am learning everyday and I plan to keep it that way for the rest of my life! Updating Faces to Selatria.

So, I have been given the awesome challenge to update the RPG game I am working on. What a blast! The challenge was to keep the same feel of the original design. So, I went to work on creating a cleaner, more appealing style for the players. The game was constantly getting ridiculed for its art.  I hope the changes make the game more appealing and everyone can appreciate it more! :)

Characters are as follows:
Mage
Melanie
Luis
016
Talker
Shopkeeper
015
Commander Llona
Commander Shaw
Gobby
Waltear
Emperor
Morgen (Old)
Morgen (Young)
Dakk Grunts (Female)
Dakk Grunts (Male)

Graphic Design Stuff Old and New

ANTics Logo (Current WIP)
Nation Insignia's-Selatria

T-Shirt Designs

Mug Designs
Velcro Stitched Patches

Giant Mouse Pads

Deep from the archives is my Graphic Design stuff. I have been doing these things a bit more. Since working on a 16-bit game it is crucial to keep clean shapes and colors in mind. The images/sprites you work on are small and limited to what is possible. These were all for marketing and while all of them weren't used, it just shows a bit of a different side of me. Some from my past job, some from my current indie game I am working on and the other from a side commission. I am working on a dragon tattoo as well. I do have problems making dragons look cool and those tend to take longer for me, but I will upload it here once it is completed.

Speed Paints

I am going to speed paint once a day or try to. Why is speed painting important? It helps acquire knowledge for quick placement of tones, hues, figures, environment and feeling for your art. I am sure there is more, but my brain is falling apart. I am studying Unreal Editor atm as well. I swear more pro things are going to be posted within the week! *hides*

Artist Note: I am having some pains in my drawing wrist so bear with me as I try to let this heal as FAST as possible. Thank you!

Job hunting.

It's really hard right now...How many places must I apply to? Even normal jobs aren't getting me anywhere, but I must keep going. My art especially...it is all I have...

Waltear Concepts

New character in the works. Since the Emperor is basically done other then the final art for him, it is time to rejoice in a new character. Stage one is always sketching. I mostly focus on hair and giving poses and what not. This is really the time to try to get a feel for the character and his actions. I try to not focus too hard on anatomy during this phase as I feel it ruins the feeling I am trying to portray. I love flirty characters and I love giving little sayings to my characters just to further the feeling for them. If at the beginning of Phase 2, I don't understand or have a decent feeling for the character I will do more.
